Introduction to Mahabharat Characters - Somadatta
Somadatta
He is
the son of Bahlika (elder brother of King Shantanu of Hastinapur)and father of
Bhurishravas. He is the root cause of trouble between Vrishni clan and his clan.
Devaki
was the sister of Kamsa and mother of Krishna. Kamsa was very fond of his sister
and arranged for swayamvaram where he invited neighboring princes to take
participate. Somadatta was the prince of Bahlika Kingdom who had come to take
part in the swayamvaram. Vasudeva was a good friend of Kamsa and he was very
much in love with Devaki. Somadatta was also keen on marrying her. A skirmish
broke out between Somadatta and Vasudeva. Vasudeva friend, Sini of Vrishni clan
of Yadavas fought with Somadatta. Somadatta loses out to shini and this leads
to a grudge held by both the clans.
