Introduction to Mahabharata Characters - Upa Pandavas

Upa Pandavas : They are five childrens born to Draupadi and Pandavas. Sometimes they are called as Pandava putras or Panchakumars. The Upa Pandavas are
  • Prativindhya
  • Shatanika
  • Sutasoma
  • Shrutasena
  • Shrutakarma
They are Prativindhya, Shatanika, Sutasoma, Shrutasena and Shrutakarma.[1][2] They fought the battle on the side of the Pandavas, but not much is said in the Mahabharata about the brothers except for fleeting mentions during the battle.

Prativindhya

He is the one who is inclined towards hunter or inclined toward vindhya mountain. He is born to Yudhishthira and Draupadi and is the eldest among the five.

Shatanika:

 He one who has hundred troops was born to Nakula and Draupadi. He was incharge of War plan like Vyuha planning under Dhrishtadyumna during the mahabhartha war. He killed the ally Bhutakarma of Kauravas when he blocked Shatanika to progress towards Drona.

Sutasoma :

He is one who extracted soma or manifestation of mind(goodness, charity, foresighted, charm). He was the son of Bhima and Draupadi and third of Upapandavas.He played a major role in annihilation of Shakuni's force. He along with other Upa Pandavas and Yudhisthira in aiding Arjuna and Bhima o the 15th day. He was favoured by Arjuna who gave him bow and horses.


Shrutasena :

He is one who is famous and well known of arts. He is the fourth Upa Pandava born to Sahadeva and Draupadi. He was defeated by Shakuni during the battle and he had killed Shala, the younger brother of Bhurisravas.

Srutakarma :

He is one who is famous for his actions.He was the last of the Upa Pandavas born to Arjuna and Draupadi after Arjun returned from his exile.His horse are of the colour of kingfishers.He fought against Dushasana and Ashwattama.
