Introduction of Mahabharata Characters - Bhurishravas
Bhurishravas
He is
the son of Somadatta and grandson of Bahlika who fought along the side of
Kauravas. Bhurishravas was at logger heads with Satyaki because of family feud.
He was one of the commanders of Akshauhini. Bhurishravas
takes his revenge by killing all ten sons of Satyaki on the fifth day of the
war.
On the
fourteenth day, Bhurishravas was protecting Jayadratha from Arjuna. Arjuna had
vowed the day before to slain Jayadratha, King of Sindh before nightfall. Dronaacharya
had made Shakatavyuha cart formation. Bhurishravas
force was conducting multiple side attack on Arjuna. Satyaki and Bheema came
and rescued Arjuna. Bhurishravas fought with Satyaki his arch rival and wanted
to finish him off. Satyaki was faltering as he was injured by Drona in the
morning duel and lost conscious as they were fighting hand combat. Bhurishravas
seized the opportunity to kill his arch enemy and absolve himself but was shot
in the hand by Arjuna.
Bhurisharavas
mocked Arjuna of his warrior ethics of shooting an arrow without announcing and
Arjuna chided him for raising his sword on a person without conscious and
weapon. Arjuna went on adding that where his ethics where my son Abhimanyu was
killed and attacked by packs of jackals. Bhurishravas felt shame on losing his
warrior pride and decided to quit the war. Bhurishravas dropped the weapons and
sat down for meditation. He was decapitated by Satyaki who woke up from his
faint and charged at him like a mad bull. Arjun was shocked because he could
not prevend the unrightful killing. The warriors on both side condemned
Satyaki, but he pacified himself that he had killed Bhurishravas because of his
oath when he was dragged on the sands on the war field and knocked unconscious.
Bhurishravas
unmindfull behavior caused his death at Satyaki’s hand and Satyaki’s death
happened after thirty six years because of the dispute that he killed
Bhurishravas in cowardly manner. This shows the path of Dharma What you sow is
what you get. Both Satyaki and Bhurishravas invested so much in hate that it
resulted their death.
